Hello, I chose my topic for my social media project by using the purdue databases provide for us. I used a few key words I wanted to focus on and was able to find an article to support them. I looked into words such as "children", "ethnic-racial", and "identity". The article I was able to find is called Young Children's Ethnic-Racial moderates the Impact of early Discrimination Experiences on Child Behavior Problems. I will be reaching my target audience and presenting the information through a powerpoint slide with graphics and bits of information as I speak over the slides. The slides are simplistic to where children, teens, young adult, and more will understand the information and hopefully retain and let the information be helpful to their lives. Hello, This week we learned about nativism and immigration policy. We talked about racial injustice as well through the podcasts, readings, and videos.  Nativism is the protection of native born and the disinterest of immigrants while racism also deals with discrimination. The two are related in the fact that society would be treating another race or culture as unequal. The immigration policy affects families as many are sent back to their native country no matter how long they have been living in the United States. This is shown in the video about Cambodia natives. The young man grew up in the United States once his family got out of the concentration camps and refugees of Cambodia. After a small incidence with the law and doing his time in immigration and back in Cambodia it is extremely difficult to come back to the United States.  Hello,  This week we covered neurodiversity and neurodiverse individuals through podcasts, videos, and readings. While reading the first article and readings to understand the topic I came across this statement. "A person is disabled not by their impairment, but by the failure of their environment to accomodate their needs. In other words, disability results not from autism itself but instead from living in a society which tends o be physically, socially, and emotionally inhospitable towards autistic people." In the podcast, Juicervose by Radiolab, autism is described as a sensory spectrum that many kids and adults lay upon these days. In the podcast, Juicervose by Radiolab, autism was not nearly as popular ro researched but reminded others and families about movies such as Rainman and that was the experience other knew about.  Hello,  This week we discussed MENA experiences through podcasts, videos, and articles.  After watching the first video by Unicef about a young Syrian refugee, it is understood she has been through a lot but has a positive outlook on life. She explains her story about fleeing, traveling, swimming, and watching others and even family pass away from or during this experience. Letting the audience know she is affected by this but somehow still smiling and looking into her future. She is able to attend schooling and receive an education. She wants to become an english teacher when she grows older and views herself as a strong individual. In this you see resilience and resistance for women and young girls.  Hello, This week we learned about Latinx and Native American populations. I will be reflecting on the following topic with the use of the podcasts and readings for the week. By watching the video called "The Mental Health Crisis Among Latina Teens", I am able to expand upon racism affecting mental health. The video was very interesting as they followed young girls stories in Wisconsin with their struggles in mental health with racism, documentation, anxiety, and depression being a large contributing factor. Racism is affecting mental health as students are getting bullied or trying to find their way in the world. This is already a struggle as a teen and then piling on cultural expectations and values weigh the young girls down. Another huge factor is the first generation status or the undocumented scare of their parents. With this weighing down the children you would expect anxiety to approach.
